The more I try to keep Wes out of my thoughts the more he’s there. Every time I experience something new in the city I wish he was here to experience it with me. How did our friendship come to this? The anger I have toward him is starting to fade, I just need my best friend back. Flipping through the last of the edits, I page Luna, the secretary I just hired. A young Puerto Rican girl who stands five feet four, her long dark hair falls in wavy curls to the small of her back and her eyes a dark chocolate brown. She’s fresh out of college but as passionate as they come about the indie business and her attention to detail is astounding.
“Luna.”
“Yes, ma’am?”
“Please give Mr. Sebastian a call. Let him know his manuscript is ready.”
“Oh, yes, ma’am.” Her excitement at my request makes me roll my eyes. Of course, she isn’t resistant to the body of a Greek god and matching city boy charm.
Hanging up the line, I take a look at my calendar for upcoming events. Flipping through the next few weeks I realize Haddy’s birthday is coming up. Guess it’s time for a trip home. Maybe Wes and I can work things out. I make a note to book my flight within the next few weeks as soon as I get through Kyler’s final edits for his release.
Speaking of Kyler, things have been strained between us since our almost . . . thing . . . at my apartment the other night. Trying not to think about it, I busy myself with sending some emails and handling some promo stuff for the company when there is a knock on my office door.
“Come in.”
My breath catches in my throat when Kyler comes walking through the door. He’s wearing black slacks that fit him perfectly, a gray button-down with the sleeves rolled to his elbows. My jaw drops when I realize he’s cut off his man bun and is now sporting a wavy fade.
“You . . . you cut your hair?”
“Yes,” he says, running his hand over his head. “It was time for my donation to Locks of Love.”
I look at him in disbelief and my frustration from the other night seeps away a little.
“Can we talk?” he asks.
“Uhm . . . sure . . . have a seat.”
He comes the rest of the way into my office, closing the door behind him and takes a seat across from me.
“So, what can I do for you?”
“Well . . . uh . . . I mainly want to apologize . . . for the other night.”
“It’s fine,” I say, not really wanting to talk about it but in reality, he was right. I don’t know what I want. I’m in love with Wes, I’ve always loved Wes. But there is no denying my attraction to Kyler.
“No, it isn’t. The way I reacted was wrong, and I’m truly sorry for that.”
“It’s okay, really it is. You were right. I don’t really know what I want.
